Debate... Full report...
Ok, here goes.
The inter-school debate was scheduled to be held one or two weeks later. But, at the last moment, the date was pulled forward, leaving every team with only (gasp) 4 days to prepare for 5 topics! thats 4 scripts plus rebuttals per topic (2 scripts for both affirmative & negative, & rebuttals for 3rd speaker...). Now, if i'm not mistaken, & if my math is still worth something... thats... 20 scripts to prepare in 4 days... no simple task.
Fortunately, our school had a sufficient number of enthusiastic students who were willing to sacrifice their time & skip classes (which isn't really much of a sacrifice... more like a bonus... ) to help out. Our team consisted of old timers from last year Nigel, Estee, Elztan, Shu Yi & Joseph.
Then of course, there were a few new-timers, Ida & Valarie, who contributed quite alot due to their sharp wits. Both debators showed promise. XD
So anyways, me & Joash went to school to lend our services. We tried to help in coaching, script writing, etc. We even helped transfer the scripts into the cue cards!
Anyways, we showed up at the competition & we were not disappointed. The first round was against SMK Teknik. The topic was "homework are a burden to students." we drew negative. The speakers were:
1) Estee as the first speaker
2) Sarah as the 2nd,
3)& 1st-timer Ida as 3rd.
Well, everything went quite well. Estee went up & spoke strongly, as did Sarah. Ida was so enthusiastic that she actually stepped out before her name was announced. She killed! Even so, our opponents, who were obviously losing (i state this as a fact.. they were completely disorganized...) had to nerve to quote this in their reply speech: "the opponent's points were like fire-crackers at first, loud & flashy, sizzled out in the end when we were able to prove them wrong. To my dear opponents, i say this : checkmate."
Well, to this "speech", i quote Elztan's almost immediate response (which was actually quite loud...) FUCK THEM! my, i don't think he was very happy now, do you?
Anyway, we beat them hands down, & surprise, surprise, Ida, the noob (newbie), actually beat the other 2 veterans & got best speaker! Not bad.
the best speaker... Ida Sim... *ENCORE!!!!*
Anyway, me & Joash had to leave early. Regardless to say, we beat SMK Pending in the 2nd round & Ida obtained best speaker honours yet again. Too bad we couldn't witness that though. (in all modesty,) i heard our team slaughtered them though. Shu Yi replaced the tired Sarah.
Sarah chew...
Estee Clara...
Now on to the 2nd day. Me & Joash were there, of course. our team was up against SMK Gapor. In my opinion, we were the better team because ALL THREE of their speakers didnt evem exceed the 6th minute mark, they didn't have a stand, & their 3rd speaker was honestly BORING.
Unfortunately, my opinion counts for nothing, & we were announced the losers. It was okay though, since we managed to reach the Quarter Finals, whereas St. Teresa who beat us in the last 3 years, didn't. Hahahahaha!!! In Your face, TERESIANS!!!! NYAHAHAHA. Thats for messing with SMK Kuching High... aha... ha... uhm.. *ahem* *ahem*... *fake cough*...
uh, i mean uh, all good things must come to an end, huh? XD
Anyways, Gapur went on to become the regional champs, beating GRSS in the se,i-finals & SMK Batu Lintang in the finals... Congratulations.... (to show that we're not sore losers....)
Oh, BTW, Joash kept taking a few random shots... here's Joseph:..
Joash's t-shirt's caption: (some guy actually stopped & stared...)
btw, he kep taking pictures of my side profile & i was like, Joash, take a picture of me with my FACE in it!
Gee- buy joash.
Anywayz, i leave this with u... our final round...
