The match was one of the best opening matches i've ever seen with the highest number of goals scored! MAN!
Ok, for all those who couldn't be bothered to stay up to witness this truly magnificent match, here's a short review. Basically, Germany's cream[minus Ballack] came on with high spirits, being the owners of the crowd, so speaking, with their home advantage. They scored early with an unlikely young player, Lahm [a fullback nontheless] at the 6th minute. Absolute pandemonium i tell you. Heck, i was screaming myself hoarse. The heavy downpour outside drowned my frenzied cheers though.
This was proceeded with a... questionable (or downright sneaky) equalizer by Costa Rica's Wanchope [i heard lampchop the first time, funny how i could think of food at a time like this.] during the 12th minute. I thought it was an offside, the commentator thought it was an offside, the bloody crowd thought it was an off side. But noooo.... (must be the skinniness of the player. he can bloody well sneak out through door cracks)
Germany, determined, scored again, this time by Klose, who was celebrating his 21st birthday today (as emphasized again, & again, & Again by the friggin commentator) in the 17th minute. It was a damn fast first half, crammed choke full with superb goals.
2nd half:
The match was starting to slow down a little after the initial first half's scoring frenzy. Most of the attempts at goal by Germany were foiled by their briliant goal-keeper. *hats off to that guy*
Unfortunately, he couldn't stop 2 consecutive attempts that happened in a split second during the 61st minute. Again, goal for Klose, a sorta unstructured, wild kick at the goal admittedly, but a goal non-theless. this brought the score to 3-1 in Germany's favour.
Then, surprise, surprise, lamp-chop scored again, also in a very off-sidey style, in the 73rd minute. But what did the refree care? He trusted the assistant's 2 eyes over the crowd's thousands! Goal for Costa Rica.
Germany was not very happy, but what the heck. Time was in their favour. They started passing the ball around in a slow leisurely way, like all powerful European clubs should in the closing minutes if they have the lead. They were In the lead, why rock the boat? The costa ricans were nervous though, & started challenging them, trying to cut off their passes.
Allrighty then. GOAL FOR GERMANY in the 87th minute. how's that? this one was executed superbly by Frings, doing a magnificent kick that sent the ball swinging into the top-right-hand corner of the goal through the out-streched fingers of the goal-keeper.
Overall these were the statistics:
Goals:
(Germany):
Lahm 6'
Klose 17' 61'
Frings 87'
(Costa Rica):
Wanchope 12' 73'
Goal of the match: 87th minute goal executed superbly by Frings
Main Surprise: Costa Rica improved ALOT... but still lost. BWAHAHAHA
Goal Tally: 6!! thats right, 6 goals in total!
BTW, to the refree, i quote Shakespeare: "Get Thee glass eyes... to see the things Thou dost not"
